Bulk Rename

Rename PDFs, documents and folders in bulk — find and replace, regex, numbering, prefixes, letter case, dates and PDF titles — or type any name yourself. Preview every file and every new name before anything changes. In Chrome and Edge the files are renamed in place; nothing is uploaded.

Sub-folders included · any file type · nothing leaves your browser

This browser cannot change files on disk, so you get the renamed folder back as a ZIP. Open this page in Chrome or Edge to rename in place.

Good to know

  • Every new name is shown before anything is written, and a name you type by hand always beats the rules.
  • Click any file to open it beside the list — PDFs, images, video, audio and text — so a document can be named by what is in it.
  • Names Windows would refuse, and two items ending up with the same name, are flagged and block the run until fixed.
  • In Chrome and Edge the rename happens on disk and can be undone while the page is open; other browsers give you a ZIP of renamed copies. Either way, download the rename log for the record.

Your files stay on your machine

This tool runs entirely inside your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or sent to a server — close the tab and every trace is gone.

How big a file can it take?

There is no upload, so there is no upload limit — but the work happens in this tab, which means your browser’s memory is the budget. Nothing here will refuse a file for being large; a big enough one simply gets slow and, eventually, reloads the tab. The figures below are rules of thumb on a desktop browser, not enforced caps. On a phone or tablet, expect a good deal less.

  • Only names are read until you ask for more, so the folder can be large — a few thousand items is comfortable. The {title} and {pages} tokens open every PDF once, which is what takes time on a big folder.
  • The ZIP route holds every file in memory while it builds, so there the combined size binds: comfortable to roughly 300 MB. Empty folders are not carried into a ZIP.

Password-protected PDFs are declined whatever their size — unlock the file first. If a run does die on a long document, splitting it into volumes and working through them one at a time is the reliable way round it.
